Banana-Oat Facial Masque
Sometimes
we all need a little spoiling but even natural body care products can
contain ingredients that are unpronounceable and they are often
expensive. Why not embrace the DIY spirit of your hippest Great Aunt
and make your own delicious facial masque just using natural items
found in your kitchen?
Here’s what we are
working with: bananas, moisturizing for dry skin; cacao powder, which
is antioxidant-rich and good for blood flow; and ground oats, which
will gently exfoliate. Okay, it’s not the prettiest looking once it's on, but it
gets the job done.
1 tablespoon dry, quick-cooking rolled oats
1/4 ripe banana
1 tablespoon unsweetened
ground cacao (find in the baking section of a natural foods store.)
Unsweetened cocoa powder is a fine replacement.
Water, as needed
Grind the oats in a dry food processor until course.
In a small bowl, mash the banana with a fork, then add the oats and
cacao powder. Mix together, adding small amounts of water, until it is
a thick paste.
On a freshly washed, dry face, apply the masque and leave it on for ten minutes. Wash, dry and moisturize. You are done.
Use once or twice a week. Leftovers can be refrigerated in an air-tight
container for up to a week. Your soft, refreshed skin will thank you.
