Book Review:
Dave Loves Chickens by Carlos Patiño
Review by 11-year-old Justice Beske, special to Vegan Street
I think that Dave Loves Chickens, written and illustrated by Carlos Pantiño,
is a good book. It has a great message and a lot of cool facts about
chickens. Dave, the monster who won’t eat meat, is an interesting and
memorable character, and I like the colorful and interesting
illustration style. I think it will be a good way to introduce a lot of
kids to the concept of veganism and it is just the first in a series of
books for young children to teach them about animal rights in a fun
way.
Mother’s review (Marla Rose):
Dave Loves Chickens
is a lushly illustrated and cheerful book for budding young animal
lovers, one that finds a way to offer interesting facts about chickens
(such as that they are descended from the T-Rex) in a story about a
compassionate monster who loves other animals so much that he won’t eat
them. Dave, the “main monster,” will be a character that young children
will relate to, with so many feeling a deep kinship to animals. I feel
that Dave Loves Chickens is an empowering and inspiring story for young
children, and I recommend it.
