Cucumber-lemon-green tea facial toner

Cucumber-Lemon-Green Tea Facial Toner

I love creating DIY body and home care products for many reasons. One reason is because doing so cuts down on plastic. Another reason is because I can control the ingredients. Yet another reason is because I can more easily avoid companies I don’t want to support. And, last but not least, I love making homemade body and home care products because it is so thrifty. There is something about thriftiness that just makes me feel so bad ass. Stick it to the man!

Even bad asses like to enjoy good skin. The green tea offers antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties to soothe sensitive skin. Cucumber is gently astringent and toning to the skin. Lemon juice is refreshing and clarifying. Witch hazel is astringent and a great soother for sensitive skin. All these things together? One powerhouse of a toner, something you would spend a lot on at the store but can make for pennies at home.

Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Apply with a cotton ball after cleaning the skin and before moisturizing. Oooh, such a fresh and delicious treat for your skin.

1/2 large cucumber, roughly chopped (peel if not organic)
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 cup witch hazel
1/3 cup green tea, cooled

In a food processor or blender, add the cucumber and lemon juice. Let process until the cucumber is pulpy and emulsified. Line a fine-mesh colander with cheesecloth and pour the cucumber-lemon mixture into the colander, letting it drip for five minutes into a bowl under the colander. With your hands, fold up the cheesecloth and squeeze the cucumber mixture into the bowl. Pour in the witch hazel and green tea, mix, and store in an air-tight container.
