Do-It-Yourself Oven Cleaner

Do-It-Yourself Oven Cleaner

Did a winter’s worth of casseroles and pizzas and who knows what else do a number on your oven? It’s time to break out some pantry staples and get scrubbing. Very thrifty and without any noxious chemicals, baking soda will gently but effectively clear the grime, leaving you with a spick-and-span oven. All it will take is some water, baking soda, vinegar and a little elbow grease.

Do-It-Yourself Oven Cleaner

Plant mister
Scrubbing brush or sponge
Water
White or apple cider vinegar
12 oz. baking soda

Remove the oven racks. Using a plant mister, mist the area you will be cleaning with water, avoiding any heating coils. Shake baking soda over the area (I used 12 oz.) and  then spritz over again so it cakes on. Allow to sit overnight.

When 12 hours or so are over, spray with vinegar. Using a scrubbing brush or sponge, scrape off the baking soda (you may want to use a large spatula to move the crumbles out) and then wipe out the inside of the stove with a warm, wet rag. Voila!
