DIY Dry Shampoo for Light and Dark Hair
Why
dry shampoo? Dry shampoo is perfect for when we want to wash our hair
less (it can be very drying for some hair types or maybe we want to use
less water) or for when we simply want clean, fresh hair without
requiring a shower. The dry ingredients will absorb the oils of
not-so-freshly-washed hair and it will impart a great scent if we add
the essential oils. (No harm done if we exclude them as many people are
irritated by scents.) Further, making our own dry shampoo helps to
remove us from the cycle of product dependency and packaging waste.
Cycle this dry shampoo into your regular routine and you may grow to
love it.
For light hair
1/4 cup organic cornstarch or arrowroot
1 T. baking soda
5 drops of your favorite essential oil or blend, optional
For dark hair
1/4 cup organic cornstarch or arrowroot
1 - 2 T. unsweetened cocoa powder
1 T. baking soda
5 drops of your favorite essential oil or blend, optional
Mix together in a small bowl and store in a small such as an
empty spice jar. (A small funnel is a great vehicle for transporting
the contents from bowl to jar.) You’re done!
To apply: Less is more when it comes to applying the dry shampoo. Shake
between 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of it into your palm or cosmetic brush,
shake between your hands to disperse or dip brush into, and tousle-rub
through your hair. Shake or brush it out if you can see any remaining
dry ‘poo.
