Oatmeal Lavender Bath

Oatmeal Lavender Bath

Why soak in a giant bowl of oatmeal? Because you’re bananas! Get it?

Anyway, why soak in oatmeal? It’s naturally soothing to dry or irritated skin. Now that winter has commenced its shoving match with spring in Chicago (when winter and spring finally stop pushing each other back and forth, we have summer), we are starting to see brighter days but our skin may be dry and our limbs may be sore from so much shoveling. Combine oatmeal with Epsom salts, which relaxes tired muscles and lavender, which also soothes, you have a cup of chamomile tea for your I-just-survived-another-winter body. (Actually, if you want to add some dried chamomile flowers to this bath, you wouldn’t be out of line.)

Oatmeal Lavender Bath

You will need:
1 cup oatmeal (any variety)
1 cup Epsom salt
½ cup dried lavender

Process your oatmeal and salt together in a food processor or blender until you have a fine grain. Put this in a storage jar with an airtight lid, add the lavender, and stir to combine. Add a couple of tablespoons to each bath and enjoy a wonderful soak.
