Sweet Potato Jerky Treats
Looking
for a nice treat for your canine friends that isn’t made out of another
animal’s skin or bone? Look no further than these Sweet Potato Jerkies.
For the price of one sweet potato, you will create a lot of chew-time
fun for your favorite pooches. The longer you bake them, the drier and
crunchier they become. In testing them out with our dog, he preferred
the ones that were a little softer. Maybe your dog will prefer the
crunchier kind – if so, cut them more narrow and bake them longer.
Regardless of preference, these babies have a great nutritional profile
without requiring violence against other animals.
Sweet Potato Jerky Treats
1 large sweet potato, washed and dried
Preheat your oven to 250 degrees. Parchment-line or position a reusable non-stick baking mat on a cookie sheet.
Cut your sweet potato in half and then cut them into fry shapes. Lay
them flat on the cookie sheet, not overlapping, and bake for 1 ½ hours.
Turn them, and bake for another 1 ½ hours, or until desired level of
crispness, knowing that they will dry out more as they cool.
Cool completely.
Store in a container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
