French Toast Shake
Okay,
I am going to admit something right here: I loathe the word smoothie.
The infantilizing sound of the word, the way it looks typed out, the
way it seems reminiscent of something sixth grade boys do to torment
one another (used in a sentence: “You should have seen that smoothie I
gave the new kid!”) and on and on. So, yeah, yuck. Despite the way that
the word makes the hair on my arms stand on end, I still like the drink
itself, so I refer to them instead as shakes. Who doesn’t like a creamy
and refreshing shake? So shake on, my friends.
This shake takes the flavors we love from French Toast and blends it
into the form of a chilly beverage we can guzzle. Add a little
sprinkling of buttery toasted pecans on top, and you’ve got the flavors
without all the heaviness of French toast. By the way, if you don’t
already freeze your bananas for your smoo - oops, shakes! - please give
it a try. Not only will you get a chillier drink, but it will be even
more naturally creamy. Simply remove the peel and slice; we keep them
on a plate in the freezer and they never get freezer burn because they
don’t get a chance, we go through them so fast.
French Toast Shake

2 cups unsweetened almond milk or other non-dairy milk
2 frozen bananas, sliced

1 t. pure vanilla extract
1 t. ground cinnamon
1/2 t. ground nutmeg
4 - 5 ice cubes
1 T. pecan pieces, toasted in a dry skillet, optional

nutmeg, and ice cubes. Pour into two glasses and top with 1/2 T. pecan pieces in each
