WayFare Dairy-Free Products: The Vegan Street Review

WayFare Dairy-Free Products: The Vegan Street Review
by Marla Rose

I will get this out of the way right away: WayFare is a client of ours, but we also really believe in their products. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t have taken the company on as a client. We’re lucky in that they happen to create some great food with ingredients we feel good about so it was a no-brainer to want to work together.

At this point, Wayfare is primarily known for their dairy-free line but they have big plans to include other vegan replacements in the future. With the burgeoning dairy-free market, expected to reach $35 billion by 2024, it’s easy to see that more and more consumers are shifting away from animal-derived milks and who can blame them? People are waking up to the fact that dairy is not beneficial to their bodies or the planet, and that the dairy industry is exploitative – to say the least – to cows and their calves. Once dairy alternatives started migrating from shelves to refrigeration units at the grocery store, shoppers started noticing them more and consumption grew exponentially. As consumption grew, more and more dairy alternative companies sprang up, products started improving and getting more varied. Now, it seems fairly rare for me to see actual cow’s milk in someone’s cart at the grocery check out line. (Come on, you snoop, too.)

WayFare Foods is based in Bozeman, MT, and the company founder Kelly Coffin came from a background in dairy production but looked into plant-based nutrition when he wanted to improve his health and the health of his family. Produced using custom-made machines that use the whole plants in a nearly-zero waste facility in Montana, WayFare products are truly cut from a different cloth.

In a growing market of well-funded brands, I think that what sets WayFare apart is their commitment to using quality, simple, whole ingredients to create a full-bodied, creamy taste. Wayfare’s puddings, cream cheeses, butters, cheeses, sour cream and dips are made without isolated ingredients, using a base of organic butter beans and oats, as well as natural flavorings, like herbs, dried onions, and agave nectar. Everything is vegan but also gluten-free, double Kosher certified, free of common allergens (except for coconut oil, which not everyone with a nut allergy has an issue with) and, best news for many of us, free of palm oil. Yes, including the butters!

None of this would matter if they didn’t taste good, though. WayFare products are creamy, rich and full of flavor; our household is particularly taken with the puddings, the butters and the sour cream. Oh, but the Nacho Cheddar Cheese. And the Jalapeño Cheddar Cheese. And…honestly, everything they offer is delicious and super convenient. For people who have trouble eating enough vegetables – or, conversely, really want to ramp up their consumption of chips – the dips are an ideal instrument for that. I think Wayfare products are great for everyone, but especially those who want to ease into a dairy-free life for whatever reason without feeling any sacrifice.

We’re excited to partner with WayFare to offer a coupon code that gives customers 10% off their purchases on WayFareFoods.com: just type in VeganStreet10 at check out (Hurry, it expires July 31st, 2017). Last, if ordering online isn’t your thing, stay turned for details on how you can help get WayFare products sold in your own community.

Vegan Street received this product for free to review and this was my honest evaluation.
